v0.4.7 - Procrastination

Heyyo, CraftedCircuitry again. As the weeks fly by towards Full Version release, I’ve started to really polish and research more about game feel and little things to help the player.

Feature Creep

Yep, I added some little extra things the Players can explore for. I’ll keep them under wraps for now, but I think they’re cool little things to get and are pretty worth the extra trek or runs. One of them was supposed to be added later down the line, but I wanted to have one on hand so the functionality is ready if I wanted to add more like it.

I also decided to add a small option as you enter the Dungeon, where you can either gain less Points but get to keep them upon failure or the normal mechanic of losing all your Points upon failure. It’s a difficulty setting I’m testing out.

Lag

So looking through some Godot 3 stuff(since Deep Dark Wrath is made on 3.5), it seems that the lag caused in the Enchanted Compendium Area and the Zoom are simply because of Godot 3’s fairly inefficient lighting. I also tested it and it is quite substantial to how many lights are visible. Since you see like 10+ lights when Zoomed out, the game just struggles. Luckily, it’s fixed in Godot 4 but that’ll be for the next project. Maybe, I’ll move the game to Godot 4? Who knows.

While it doesn’t affect the main gameplay, I did decide to scrap the Zooming out in favor of a more sign HUD approach. The Enchanted Compendium can’t be changed sadly, even with the reduction of lights, it’s still not the best.

v0.4.7

Added a little more feel to low health, fixing up some terms, more QoL changes, etc. I’ve been a bit more active on Reddit trying to market and find more feedback on the current state of the game. I’ve also added some small objects around the Dungeon Areas to give it a little more life(or well, make it seem that a lot of failed adventurers have fallen).

More polish was also added to the End Cutscene. A new Enemy Shooting animation was added to make it easier to see them charging up a projectile. Extra SFX was also made, Info Cards were also made and given special conditions of when those show up. I also redid the darkness when entering the Dungeon, and I think I’m happy with how dark and engulfing the Dungeon is now.

The Future

That’s it for this week honestly. A lot has been done and a lot more will be coming as the next weeks pass. I will say though, I’m pretty happy with the game right now and am ready to just go for more marketing and audience-seeking with it now. Maybe a few fixes here and there but I think it’s good now.

This has been CraftedCircuitry, signing off for now.
